Helmet Safety Warning
Important note: Unless otherwise noted, these helmets are represented by the manufacturer to meet or exceed minimum specifications for riding helmets for equestrian use as defined by recognized industry bodies. Bottles and Bridles Tack Shop has not independently verified these manufacturer representations. No helmet can protect the wearer against all foreseeable impacts. Use of a helmet is no guarantee of safety. They are designed only to help reduce the risk of some injuries.
A helmet worn without the chin strap fastened, or with the strap loosely fitted, will not protect your head!!
Certified equestrian helmets and their components are made in such a manner that they may compress, crush and fracture on serious impacts. These helmets work by giving up their structure in order to absorb as much of the heavier forces as possible. In a simple analogy, they are like a melon over the head—they crush internally upon big impacts. A broken helmet after impact is not per se a sign of a faulty helmet. In the serious impact, the helmet crushes and cracks as much of energy is absorbed. You should replace your helmet after any fall with a helmet impact.
No helmet can prevent all types of head injuries. But by fully reading your owner's manual and acquainting yourself with proper helmet fit, care and features, you can reduce the chance of injury during an impact.
NEVER buy a used helmet! You will not know if it has been damaged in a fall!!
NEVER use a bike helmet for riding. They don't cover the back of your head well enough and are designed for riding bicycles! Horse riding helmets are designed for riding horses.
NEVER loan out your helmet! The adjustments could of been changed or the helmet could of been damaged! (not to mention "cooties"
ADJUST the helmet properly so it is comfortable and fits well! I see so many kids at horse shows with the chin strap so loose the helmet would surely fall off if they did. That is just plain silly.
