Helmet Fitting
Measure the head using a cloth measuring tape, or a piece of string
you can measure with a ruler afterward, approximately one inch
above the eyebrows around the full circumference of the head.
Once measured, you should have a measurement in either inches
or centimeters.
Once measured, you should have a measurement in either inches
or centimeters.
Use this measurement, along with the Helmet's Sizing Chart, to identify
the appropriate size as Small, Medium, or Large. Or determine your hat size as follows:
Hat size: 6 5/8 = 20 3/4 inches
...............6 3/4 = 21 1/8 inches
...............6 7/8 = 21 1/2 inches
...............7...... = 21 7/8 inches
...............7 1/8 = 22 1/4 inches
...............7 1/4 = 22 5/8 inches
...............7 3/8 = 23 inches
...............7 1/2 = 23 1/4 inches
Try the helmet on to ensure it fits the head comfortably without
causing any pressure points, such as squeezing the sides of the
head or pressing on the forehead. If the helmet is too tight, you may need a bigger size. If the helmet is too loose, remove the padded cushions inside the head liner and replace the with the thicker pads. Some of the Troxels come with "FlipFold" pads, that you can fold down for a custom fit.
Many helmet have "adjust-a-fit" dial on the back thatwill bring the back of the helmet in for a proper fit.
Follow the instruction manual on how to move each helmets straps amd retention system.
The helmet should sit level on the head and the forehead
is covered within two fingers width of the eyebrows. The helmet should feel snug around the entire head without
pressure points.
Adjust the chin strap so it fits snug under the chin. Open your mouth in a big yawn. The helmet should pull down on the
head. If not, tighten the chin strap.
Jump up and down like you were trotting, You want the helmet to have a little wiggle room, but not so that it rocks back on your head or falls down into your eyes.
Once adjusted propery, do not carry or hang your helmet but the chin strap!!! This is very important to stress to children!! Carrying a helmet in this matter will alter the fit.
Also be sure to stress to your child NOT to loan out their helmet. Chances are the adjustments will be changed by the other child. If you ride in a boarding or lesson facility, be sure your helmet in stored in a locker or take it home with you. People will borrow it (unsavory thought).
Do not put it in the trunk of your car or in the sun. It is high impact plastic but the helmet still can get brittle or melt.
Remember, a riding helmet is designed to with stand one impact with the ground. Replace it or return it to the manufacturer for an inspection. Many companies have a crash replacement policy, but you must send in the warranty!
Helmets should be replaced any every 5 years or so. More often with heavy useage in the sun...
